Reef HQ, formerly known as the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium, was opened on 24 June 1987 and is the world's largest living coral reef aquarium. Its innovative exhibits provide a real life encounter of the Great Barrier Reef. The main attraction is a two and a half million litre coral reef exhibit that replicates a natural reef ecosystem. As the Reef Education Centre for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Reef HQ is known as a centre of excellence in marine education. Reef HQ exists to inspire everyone to care for the Great Barrier Reef.

We were lucky enough to be invited to look around Reef HQ, in Townsville, on our way out of town. We sat through the underwater show and tell, learning a huge amount about the underwater ecosystem. Who knows what a shark egg looks like? I had certainly never thought about where sharks come from before! With a touch pool and an enormous tank containing some rather special specimens of reef life I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being up close and personal with little Nemos and big nurse sharks.

Whoa, I didn't know that sharks has eggs. Well, I know that before they developed, it would be an egg, but, why is it out in the open? Are some sharks like so? They just leave the eggs and hope that they do fine on their own? Anyways, I can see that you guys have found nemo.. lol. The clown fish or something?

Interesting stuff isn't it Steven. Most sharks do give birth to live sharks but some release eggs.
I can honestly say that until my visit to reef world, if I had come across something like this,I would never have realised that it was a shark egg.
